1Cover is a NSW based Insurance intermediary offering top quality insurance policies at some of the lowest rates in Australia. Their site focuses mainly on their travel insurance offers; however, they also offer car and home insurances, with a forthcoming pet insurance to be launched some time in 2008. Their catch-cry is, "Click…Quote…Cover", which highlights the simplicity of the process and the product they have on offer.
Their travel insurance is managed by ETI Australia Pty Ltd which is a company of the Mondial Assistance Group and underwriten by Alliance Australia Insurance Ltd. They offer all standard inclusions within their policies, but appear to not offer a great deal of flexibility within their polies. However, they do have a 1 800 number which may allow for a more tailored insurance option.
1 Cover travel insurance offers a comprehensive list of travel insurances, which includes the following:
- Single Trip Comprehensive Insurance - Includes single, duo or family options for overseas or domestic coverage.
- Multi Trip Insurance - Duration of 12 months for up to 90 days of travel. It is only available for overseas travel. They offer a flat rate of $325 for a single person and $479 for a family/duo – which can inculde an unlimited number of children.
- Backpacker Insurance – Includes quotes for four different regions of the world for single, duo, or family options for up to 12 months. This policy also has the flexibility of extending it further at any time while away.
- Medical Only Insurance – This is the most basic of all their travel insurances and covers only for any medical emergencies (including dental) and related costs. It will cover you for up to 12 months anywhere in the world for a flat rate of $455.
- Ski Insurance – This insurance is unique in that it covers for any ski holiday you may take domestically or internationally. Along with the standard inclusions it also covers for emergency rescue, bad weather, ski equipment hire, resort closure, and unused ski passes.
- Corporate Insurance – Covers everyone in the office for up to 90 days travel over a 12 month period. It will cover such things as document replacement, extra travel fees for a substitute employee replacing innitial employee, ransom monies, workers compensation, and medical/hospital expenses.
The website is clean, clear and appealing with a very easy navigation system that would allow any novice of the Internet to walk through it with ease. It is clear in what each policy contains – with an explanation of what each inclusion is - and how much you will be covered for. A Product Disclosure Statement, in PDF format, is available on the site which covers each travel insurance plan offered.
Most of their business is transacted online they are therfore able to offer extremely competive prices – free of agent fees and commissions. A good aspect of the site is their quoting method. When clicking on their ‘get a quote’, in some instances, it will display a range of other option plans as well as ‘your quote’. For example, when quoting for a single trip overseas for a family of four, on top of the requested quote, it also displays an option for an ‘Annual Multi-trip’ plan, a ‘Backpackers’ plan, and a ‘Medical Only’ plan.
